Firm Wins Case On Access To Pension Data

Ram, Olson, Cereghino & Kopczynski recently won a victory for its clients The Modesto Bee, the California Newspaper Publishers Association, and the First Amendment Coalition when a Stanislaus County Superior Court judge ruled that the public has a right to know the names and pension amounts of people receiving pension benefits from the Stanislaus County Employees' Retirement Association (StanCERA). StanCERA argued that the public didn't have a right to know the names of people receiving pension benefits under California law, but the court agreed with our clients that the public has a right to know the identity of people receiving pension benefits so that it can monitor the spending of public money.
