Michael graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1982. He began as a litigation associate at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco, specializing in complex business litigation. In 1987 Michael was a co-recipient of the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award given by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice for a class action on behalf of veterans exposed to radiation.
Before co-founding R&O, Michael was a partner with Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann and Bernstein, where he participated in representing plaintiffs in several major class actions.
At Ram & Olson, Michael continues to focus on consumer class actions. He is co-lead counsel for plaintiffs in a number of national and statewide consumer class actions.
Mike co-authored "New Class Certification Developments in Non-Personal Injury Product Defects/Consumer Protection Cases: Nationwide vs. Statewide Classes and the Role of Choice of Law" with Elizabeth J. Cabraser of Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann & Bernstein for the ABA's Ninth Annual National Institute on Class Actions, held in San Francisco on October 7, 2005.
